We present:
Duc, Social Media
Manager at Winkee
Welcome, Duc! We’re glad you could take the time to join us.
For those who don’t know you yet: you’re the Social Media
Manager at Winkee, a brand known for its humorous and
innovative gift ideas. Tell us, what exactly do you do all day?
Thank you for having me! What do I do all day? Honestly, it’s
a mix of creative work, crisis management, and... well, meme
research. (laughs) But seriously: I’m responsible for building and
bringing our brand to life on social media. I create content, plan
campaigns, respond to comments, and review analytics – and
yes, now and then, I find myself falling down an internet rabbit
hole while searching for trends.
To me as an average person, that initially sounds like Social
Media Managers have their own language…
Absolutely! Social Media Managers often speak in a mix of
technical terms, internet slang, and trending buzzwords. We
say things like, “This post has a high engagement rate,” or, “This
meme is currently the peak of viral content.” It can sound like a
secret code, but at the core, we’re just translating what works
online and giving it a professional spin.

Now we’ve already mentioned the term “meme” twice, so
could you please explain to our readers what exactly a
meme is?
For example, meme research means looking at what funny
images, videos, or trends are currently popular on the internet,
why they work, and how to use them for our own content. It’s
about understanding the language and humor of the internet
and using it creatively.
Sounds like a very diverse job! Speaking of trends: how do
you keep up with the ever-changing hypes?
That’s truly an art in itself. I follow a lot of accounts on TikTok,
Instagram, and the like that act as trend barometers. And
I probably spend more time than I’d like to admit scrolling
through Reels and Shorts. My algorithm probably thinks I’m a
teenager with ADHD by now. But hey, if it works, it works!
At Winkee, you have a very humorous brand presence.
Are there types of content that perform particularly well?
Definitely. Anything unexpected that makes people laugh
works great. For example, we once made a post about “gifts for
men.” Everyone expected a razor or a keychain, but instead, we
posted our kind of gifts for men. It absolutely took off! People
love it when they think, “This can’t be serious… or can it?” And
of course, cute animals always work. So here’s my tip: if you’re
ever experiencing a lull in engagement, post a cat.
Ha, ha, so a cat always works. Have you ever had a post that
completely backfired?
Oh yes, we’ve had that! Once, we posted something we thought
was super funny. But instead of getting laughs, people started
debating completely unrelated things. One person claimed we
had hidden messages, another wanted to make it a political
statement, and in the end, we were just confused. We wanted to
make people smile, but instead, we accidentally sparked a miniconspiracy theory. The lesson? The internet is a strange place,
full of surprises and interpretations we can’t always foresee!
That sounds like a real balancing act! How do you handle
negative comments?
That’s actually an important part of my job. Our brand
philosophy is to stay lighthearted and humorous, even when
faced with criticism. If someone writes, “This is total nonsense!”
I might reply with, “Nonsense that could enrich your life!”
(laughs) But of course, there are limits – if things get too
offensive, we step in.
That sounds like a lot of work. How do you stay creative
without burning out?
Good question. I’ve learned that taking breaks is essential. It
sounds counterintuitive, but sometimes it’s better to turn off
TikTok and go for a walk. I also have a small team I brainstorm
with – they keep me creative and motivated. And if nothing
works, I watch old viral videos. The classics often bring the best
ideas.
Duc, one last personal question: which Winkee product is
your absolute favorite?
Definitely the “Cat Wine Glass.” It combines everything I love –
wine and cats. Imagine sitting on your couch after a stressful
day, glass in hand, cat on your lap… it’s perfect. But I swear,
that’s not the only reason I work at Winkee! (laughs)
Sounds like a dream life! Thank you for the interview, Duc. It
was great to get a behind-the-scenes look at Winkee. Do you
have any final words for our readers?
Of course! Next time you’re scrolling through your social media
feed and stumble upon a funny post, remember there’s a Social
Media Manager like me behind it, wondering at 3 a.m., “Is this
too weird or just right?” Oh, and be sure to check out Winkee’s
website. It might just be the highlight of your day!
Fantastic! Thank you, Duc, and have fun creating memes
and conquering the internet.
Thanks, I will, because one thing’s for sure: I’ll never get bored! ?
